Second Wind Lung Transplant Association

About Us

Second Wind Lung Transplant Association, Inc. was formed on April 17, 1995, by a small group of people who wanted to provide information about lung transplantation to others. At that time lung transplantation was evolving from an experimental and rarely applied treatment to becoming a more common therapy for end-stage lung disease The slogan “Support through Service” was adopted, as was our mission statement:

To improve the quality of life for lung transplant recipients, lung surgery candidates, people with related pulmonary concerns and their families, by providing support, advocacy, education, information and guidance through a spirit of service, adding years to their lives and life to their years.

Today, Second Wind is an international organization with over 400 members scattered throughout the United States and in Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
